Creating a WebDAV connection in Windows XP and VISTA

Windows XP

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. In the Build Tab, select File Manager from the Designers Tools bar.

  1. From the File Manager Actionlink, select View WebDAV Info.

  1. A WebDAV info box will appear with the URL for your course site. Note that this URL is already highlighted, so all you have to do is Control C or Right Click to copy it.

  1. Close this box and minimize your course site.

  1. Go to your Desktop and click on My Computer.

  1. Click on My Network Places.
  2. Click on Add a Network Place.
  3. A Wizard comes up.  Here is what it looks like:

  1. This Wizard will step you though creating a Network Place connection from your computer to the Files on your CE 6 course site.
At one point, you will be asked to rename your course link; be sure to give it the name of your course so the link will be easy to recognize.

To edit a file, open the program in which you created the file. However, instead of clicking on My Documents to open the specific document,
click on My Network Places and then on the course title. You will see a list of the files on your CE 6 site. Select the file and make your edits.
When you save the file, it will automatically save back to the CE 6 File Manager.

Windows Vista

Note:  There is a known issue with WebDav and Vista where documents open as read only, and cannot be edited, when using Microsoft Word 2007.  Until a fix is posted by Microsoft, you can do one of two things to edit your files: (1) download the file from your site to your desktop or My Docs, edit it, and re-upload it or (2) edit the original document that you have in your “my Docs” on your hard drive and re-upload. As long as you don’t change the file name, the re-loaded files will replace the files on your site.
